Nazarbayev University School of Medicine (NU SOM), established in 2015 in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM), aims to be the academic hub for Kazakhstan’s health system. It offers the first graduate-entry, US-style Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in Kazakhstan, which is taught in English. This curriculum integrates healthcare education, biomedical research, and leadership training, with the goal of cultivating the next generation of medical professionals in Kazakhstan. The partnership also focuses on transforming the University Medical Center (UMC) to meet international medical standards and establishing residency programs that align with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I).
