Health and Well-being Department
The Health and Well-being Department (HWD) at Nazarbayev University offers comprehensive services to students, including:
  • On-Duty Consultant service (Triage consulting)
  • Psychological counseling (individual, group, family)
  • Crisis counseling (emergency assistance to clients in situations of health threat, multidisciplinary team services)
  • Assistance programs for victims of harassment (sexual, gender, psychological, physical, domestic violence, harassment, Internet bullying)
  • Outreach programs (Stress Management, Time Management, Red Folder, Art therapy)
  • Social services , psychosocial support for students with special needs

These services aim to promote mental and emotional well-being, foster resilience, and provide assistance to those in need





The Social Development Fund further supports initiatives related to health and well-being, such as autism support, healthy aging, and sexuality education. Through outreach programs and specialized workshops, the Fund plays a vital role in enhancing community health education and social support for students with special needs.
NU Medicine, a vibrant academic healthcare system based on international standards and developed in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) and its Medical Center (UPMC). NU Medicine consists of the School of Medicine (SOM), University Medical Center (UMC), Center for Life Sciences (CLS), and other NU schools.

Nazarbayev University School of Medicine (NU SOM), established in 2015 in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM), aims to be the academic hub for Kazakhstan’s health system. It offers the first graduate-entry, US-style Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in Kazakhstan, which is taught in English. This curriculum integrates healthcare education, biomedical research, and leadership training, with the goal of cultivating the next generation of medical professionals in Kazakhstan. The partnership also focuses on transforming the University Medical Center (UMC) to meet international medical standards and establishing residency programs that align with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I).
