Energy Efficiency Services for Industry
Nazarbayev University plays a critical role in supporting Kazakhstan’s industrial energy transition through the provision of direct services aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and clean energy integration. Key Research Projects Supporting Clean Industrial Energy
Computational Materials Science Laboratory
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Collaboration with Samruk-Energy
The lab has partnered with a major integrated oil and gas company in Kazakhstan to develop industrial applications for hydrogen energy and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies. It provides modeling expertise in hydrogen production and storage, nuclear materials, and CO₂ utilization for improving energy efficiency in extractive industries.
In partnership with Kazakhstan’s national energy company, NU is conducting a 2023–2025 research program to develop CCS technologies for deployment at existing and future coal-fired power plants. The project targets emission reduction, cleaner combustion processes, and integration of carbon-neutral innovations into Kazakhstan’s power sector.
